This restaurant was amazing, it had great service and food to match. Greatly recommend for people that are hungry and need food fast.

I super duper enjoyed my two recent breakfast experiences at Clark's. It was such a blast for the past to go into one of these old-time multifunctional New England restaurants.
The cook does an excellent job with the corned beef hash and the wait staff were super duper nice. It was lovely. And the price was right as well.
Frankly, I am floored by some of the whiny reviews below. This is a small diner in Connecticut near a major university....maybe temper your expectations to be more realistic. -

I admit I didn't eat here. However, while parking my car yesterday, I watched a waitress finish her cigarette and flick it into the street before heading back inside. :(

A group of us went to Clark's Pizza & Restaurant on New Years Eve before we attended the Yale Vs UCONN hockey game. I ordered the special of Fried Calimari dinner. For just $11.95 I received a big plate of Calimari with plenty of cocktail sauce to dip them. My meal also came with fries & coleslaw. If you see this offered on their menu, order it. It was plenty good.

I stopped into Clark's two weeks ago for lunch. I was meeting a friend from the Engineering Dept. at Yale, and our original plan had been to go to the nearby food trucks. However, it was raining, so we opted to stick to an actual restaurant on Whitney Ave. instead. I chose Clark's simply because it wasn't a chain, unlike several of the other options, without doing any research on it. This was definitely not my finest culinary decision, for sure.
I should have known I'd be in for a rough time upon walking in and seeing nobody under the age of 40, but I didn't want to go back out in the rain, so I grabbed a table. My friend ordered the Philly cheesesteak, and I ordered the tomato, basil, mozz panini. I was envisioning that my sandwich would contain ripe tomatoes, fresh mozz, and actual basil leaves, but no such luck. Instead, it contained mealy white tomatoes enveloped by melted deli-sliced mozzarella with dried basil leaves sprinkled on top. As one might expect given these ingredients, it was absolutely tasteless--and it wasn't cheap, either, at $9.99. Hindsight is always 20-20, I know, but I could have walked another block to Zoi's on Orange and had a far superior sandwich for $2 less!
To add insult onto injury, service was glacially slow. After taking our drink orders, 15 min. passed before our food orders were taken, and the sandwiches took at least 20 min. to come out--even figuring out how to pay was an ordeal (don't bother waiting for the check--pay at the counter). It took a full hour from start to finish, which is absolutely unacceptable for such a simple lunch.
Long story short: Don't waste your time or money here. If you want a non-breakfast diner-like experience in New Haven, try Yorkside Pizza, which isn't anything special but is leaps and bounds above Clark's. If you want a quick, delicious, and reasonably-priced lunch, try Zoi's on Orange instead. Seriously, almost anything is better than this place!
